MARATHEAS
Maratheas is a mountain village in a lush natural environment at an altitude of 800m. It is 37 km west of Karpenissi. The village consists mainly of three settlements Marathias Lower, Middle and Amiriani and below the villages of Parkio and Voiladas, which are on the banks of Megdova ”Tavropos” river.
The establishment of the village is located in the first years of Turkish slavery, when forced shepherds and peaceful people created coherent social groups in villages for mutual support and in order to confront the Turkish raids.
The village belongs to "Politochoria" of Haryana villages, whose inhabitants migrated to the city founded and developed the business trade. Sample the economic welfare of its residents are the stately stone mansion, with its unique architecture tower-houses. There is a hotel in 1883, built by the ''Brotherhood'' City, now is not working anymore.
The old houses that still survive have strongly fortified features. Both the architectural style and building materials that make buildings to incorporate the natural surroundings.
